Carla Monroe

Born in London’s East end, Carla Marie Dominique known as Carla Monroe was raised in a large Dominican family.  Often finding herself in the back room of her nan’s large town house, she would soak up a multiplicity of sounds including 80’s hip-hop, reggae, zouk, lovers rock and soul.

From a young age music has been a dominant feature in Carla’s life, she later joined Sylvia Young Theatre School, where she attended singing and dance classes. Taking part in regional competitions, Carla’s passion for singing grew evermore through her teenage years and provided her with opportunities to perform at a number of prestigious venues.

Carla’s delicate yet raw tone caught the attention of esteemed producer Astrixx (Quavo, Dakota, Ghetts) at an unsigned acts showcase in 2007. The duo then went on to collaborate with a number of UK artists at a time which saw the emergence of Grime. The duo worked on various collaborations and Carla continued to write for various artists and producers while focusing on her own solo projects.

The song “17” was a demo written and recorded by Carla in 2014 which recently caught the attention of American DJ, record producer and remixer Marc Kinchen, known as MK. In 2017 MK decided to release the track, using Carla’s vocals.
