Hailing from North London, Unorthodox is a DJ/Producer who’s interest in house music reaches back to the early 90s. His extensive music collection takes in the crème of the Acid and US House scene and boasts cuts from the lines of 95 North, DJ Disciple, Steve Silk Hurley, Dave Cammacho and Todd Terry. The latter’s dub of Martha Wash’s soul classic “Carry On” in particular influenced Unorthodox to start producing music.
Having worked with some of the music industries top writers, his experience and nous in the studio is both respected and sought after. He’s written and mixed for a whole range of artists, including the like of Todd Terry, The Disciples, Secondcity and Alex Mills with labels ranging from Toolroom Records, Lou Lou Records, Cuff Recordings and Sony to name but a few.
Releases on Suara and Material lead to the opportunity to remix one of the biggest dance tracks of 2015 ‘How Deep Is Your Love’ by Calvin Harris & Disciples. His remix has amassed an impressive 450k views on Youtube to date with support from many industry tastemakers. In addition to his production work, he is just as an impressive DJ. When Data Transmission invited him to turn in a studio mix for their revered ‘Mix of the Day’ series, he did not disappoint.
With his live schedule becoming increasingly bigger following supporting slots for the likes of Mendo, Tube & Berger, Secondcity and Jay Lumen, it is apparent that Unorthodox’s stock is set to rise further over the coming months.
