Just over ten years ago Glyn Fussell came up with his idea of what made the perfect night out. That idea has now become a reality and has been turned into Sink the Pink; one of the biggest, most innovative nights out in the UK. Famous for its colourful party-goers and glittered-up drag queens, the vibrant collective aims to change the way we approach clubbing and gender by creating a space for people to look as wild as they choose. Having surprise performers and DJs who aren’t announced anywhere until the night, combined with the annual drag queen Miss Sink the Pink competition, there’s a reason the last Sink the Pink event was able to sell out Brixton Academy! With four parties a year in venues such as The Troxy Sink the Pink is fighting the corner for queer spaces while appealing to the mainstream collaborating with brands such as Selfridges, YSL and Sony to increase LGBT+ visibility, with Glyn at the forefront of it all.
On the back of the roaring success of the Sink the Pink nights, summer 2017 saw the launch of Mighty Hoopla festival. Mighty Hoopla is an extension of Sink the Pink, with all of the tomfoolery, freedom and drag queens Sink the Pink provides, combined with the best and cheesiest popstars around performing on stage spread across 5 stages on one day in June. Heading into its third year and already having moved to Brockwell Park, Brixton from Victoria Park, Hackney to increase the size of venue due to the event’s popularity, this year should see a third sell out year for the event with Chaka Khan recently announced as headliner of the main Sink the Pink stage which Glyn presents throughout the entire day.
Thanks to the success of Sink the Pink mostly, Glyn is also a mastermind behind other ventures such as East Creative, the events agency that hosts Sink the Pink, Mighty Hoopla and the latest big night out in London, Savage Disco. This partnership has further expanded as Glyn and his business partner Jamie have created celebrity DJ agency Noisy Kitchen, alongside Fearne Cotton.
Most recently, Glyn has taken a step into the world of broadcast and is the host of the second most popular podcast on BBC Sounds “Drag Queens Den” for Radio 1 where he is able to discuss his drag expertise alongside drag queens from across the country and celebrity fans. A huge step in the right direction on Glyn’s mission to uplift the crossover of LGBT+ spaces and the mainstream, the second season of the podcast is being recorded very soon, with a third and fourth season also in the pipeline.
A man with many strings to his bow and an infectious personality, it is only the beginning of Glyn Fussell!
