Micaela is an upholsterer and upcycler from South East London.
Growing up Micaela’s family had always taught her carpentry and sewing skills so when she made the decision to work for herself and a friend suggested she try upholstery it became the perfect fit! After attending an upholstery course Micaela quickly learned the tricks of the trade and set up her business, Sharp & Simpson in 2017. She has since appeared on Flipping Profit (BBC 1) where she purchased chairs and sofas needing upholstery, before competing against well-known auctioneers and market traders to make the most profit. She has also appeared on Junk Rescue (CBBC), where she transformed a cable wheel into a mushroom chair that is featured on every show during storytime. Most recently she appeared on Alan Titchmarsh’s Love Your Weekend (ITV) upcycling an old coffee table into a stylish bench and reviving a chesterfield sofa. She is currently working on a project for the BBC and Netflix which is yet to be announced.
Before turning her hands to upholstery, Micaela spent many years working in the luxury travel industry, visiting over 250 luxury boutique hotels for Mr & Mrs Smith, a luxury travel website. She lives in South East London with her husband and their dog Flora. Her business has grown and she now oversees an upholstery team updating family favourite furniture as well as working with commercial enterprises for office and leisure spaces. She co-founded Womxn in Business South East and is passionate about promoting and uniting independent businesses run by women.
