Micaela is an upholsterer, upcycler, and interior designer from South East London.

Micaela first appeared on our screens in Flipping Profit and Junk Yard Rescue, both for BBC. In 2021 she showed us her talents stretched to far more than just upholstery when she reached the semi-finals of Interior Design Masters with Alan Carr on BBC Two. Since then, Micaela has featured on Money for Nothing (BBC), Alan Titchmarsh’s Love Your Weekend (ITV) and has been part of the team of expert makers for three series of The Woodland Workshop (Discovery+). In 2022, Micaela was named the first ever black interior designer on the iconic series Changing Rooms, when she joined the team on the Channel 4 reboot.

Before turning her hands to upholstery, Micaela spent many years working in the luxury travel industry, visiting over 250 luxury boutique hotels for Mr & Mrs Smith, a luxury travel website. She co-founded Studio Janettie, creating bespoke furniture and homeware pieces and is passionate about promoting and uniting independent businesses run by women.

Growing up Micaela’s family had always taught her carpentry and sewing skills so when she made the decision to work for herself and a friend suggested she try upholstery it became the perfect fit! After attending an upholstery course Micaela quickly learned the tricks of the trade and set up her own business in 2017. She now oversees an upholstery team updating family favourite furniture as well as working with commercial enterprises for office and leisure spaces. She also has an online upholstery masterclass course with Create Academy which launched in September 2022. Her debut book, Modern Upholstery is due to be published by Hardie Grant in Summer.
