Jaguar Skills

With his encyclopaedic knowledge of hip-hop, drum & bass, house music and everything in between, Jaguar Skills continues to be a fixture on the club and festival circuit, delighting ravers with his wildly adventurous DJ sets and mixes.

He has performed at EDC, V festival, Global Gathering, Reading and Leeds, Bestival, Camp Bestival, as well as hundreds more.

He started DJ’ing in 2002 at East London arts bar Dream Bags Jaguar Shoes. From this, he worked with fashion label Maharishi on a 60-minute CD. It was created, looped, produced entirely on a mini Sony Walkman. After which Jade Jagger invited Jaguar Skills to become a resident at her Jezebel parties in Ibiza, Russia and Hong Kong. He was a resident DJ at Pacha Ibiza, in the global room, between 2004-2007. During this time, he produced “We Love You” for US rapper Lupe Fiasco, as well as remixing “Ask The DJ” by Mr Hudson.

His breakthrough project, ‘History Of Hip-Hop’, was released. 600 classic Hip-Hop records, played in order of release, from 1979 to 2006 in 60 minutes. Gaining the attention of MTV, the mix was downloaded more than 3 million times, making it one of the most heralded Hip-Hop mixtapes of all time. This then got on the radar of the BBC, he was offered a weekly slot on Radio 1’s The Trevor Nelson Show, this is where he cemented his position as a mash-up pioneer.

Other notable mixes also include his “History of DnB” mix and also a “History of Ayia Napa” mix on Radio 1 accompanied Kano.
Island Records subsequently requested a mix for their artist Devlin. He was commissioned to remix and produce a Renault Clio advert soundtrack, and also received the Gold Award 2010 at the New York Radio Awards for his BBC World Cup Mix.
His first major compilation album was released via Toolroom Records, ‘Toolroom Knights Mixed by Jaguar Skills’, which received widespread critical acclaim and cemented his place as the king of multi-genre mixes.

Numerous sell out UK tours along with tours in North America and Australia bridged the gap before his second compilation on Ministry Of Sound, titled ‘Jaguar Skills And His Amazing Friends Vol 1’, was released. ‘Volume 2’ quickly followed, establishing him as one of the world’s leading multi-genre Bass DJs.

The end of 2013 Jaguar Skills was unveiled as one of the newest DJs to sign to Global, with his first ever “Jaguar Skills Shooooow” on Capital XTRA. During this time, he sold out London’s Koko three times in the space of 18 months.

The following year Jaguar Skills released “Nervous 90’s Hip-Hop” LP. US label, Nervous Records’ gave Jag access to their classic Hip-Hop back catalogue 24 track master tapes, to re-mix and re-imagine. The compilation features 65 tracks from pioneering artists such as KRS-One, Black Moon, Mad Lion, Funkmaster Flex, Smif-N-Wessun. Jag then produced “30 Years of Def Jam”, for the classic hip-hop label, which saw him mix material from the likes of Jay-Z, Redman, Kanye West, 2Chainz, Nas, Ludacris, DMX, The Roots.

After supporting. The Prodigy at Ushuaia in 2014. They took him on tour and even asked him to remix “Roadblox”, the fourth single from their album The Day Is My Enemy (2015).

Jag continued further down the path to becoming a fully-fledged producer with an EP with Chords on Andy C’s legendary RAM Records.  Titled ‘Lust’ and released in October, the released featured the vocal talents of Matti Roots, the release to specialist radio by storm. To compliment the release, the original ninja also turned in a ’60 minutes of RAM’ that premiered on MistaJam’s 1Xtra show.

He then singed to Viper Recordings for his next 2 EP releases. Ready To Rock EP (2016) and “The Miseducation Of A Boss” EP (2017) Smashing the club scene with the track “Reload That” featuring Milli Major, the song went on to hit the B-List at Radio 1Xtra. ‘Reload That: Reloaded, with guest vocals from Example, Tempa T and Big Narstie was released later, also to great acclaim. His track “Off My Rocker” with Saskilla racked up well in excess of 1 million streams. Along with the track “Riot Squad” with Mind Vortex becoming a Jump Up Drum & Bass anthem.

In 2018, Jaguar joined forces with Birmingham based Four 40 label to deliver three Bassline tracks.  “Ninjaman” with Spookz, “Lick Off” with Shakes and “Jump” Wheeto and Scrufizza. Also releasing the tracks “Leg Day” with Shapes and “Birthday Bash” with Foor.

Working in the studio the entirety of 2019. 2020 see Jag releasing his biggest mix project EVER as well as brand new a brand new Hip-Hop project on this own label NOPE23.
